Fort Lewis or should I say JBLM or ?¢‚Ǩ?ìJABLAM?¢‚Ǩ¬ù as we all now call it has been our first and only duty station. We now have orders for Fort Bragg and will be leaving in September. I will try to give as much information to anyone who needs it as possible. We?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve lived here for almost 6 years and have always lived at the same apartment complex. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s only my Husband and I so we?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve never had the desire to live on post. Our apartments are called Hidden Lake Apartments. Our BAH is somewhere around the 1300 and our rent here is about $670. So we?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve been able to save alot of money. One draw back is that these apartments are pretty small. When we first moved here we were just married and 19 so we didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t have alot of stuff and now over the years we need something a little bigger. Other apartments that I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve had friends live at and love are Hunters Glen apartments. They are very nice and priced about the same as mine. These apartments are really close to the North Gate which if you work on that part of post will be a great way to avoid traffic. They aren?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t right off the street like alot of apartments are here they are in a little neighborhood area. One thing I should mention is that the apartments here are not new apartments! I don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t know why they have such out dated apartments in this area but they do. Another apartment complex a friend lived in was Merill Creek. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a little newer the other apartments you will find around here but the price is a little high, one plus is that is a complex that has the rental agreement with JBLM so part of the rent comes out on the 1st and part of it on the 15th. Lakewood is not the worst area like some people make it seem. What I loved about our apartments was it wasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t even a 10min drive for my Husband to get to work, the Tacoma mall is only 10mins away. But right down the road from us was a Safeway, Tanning, Applebees, Target, Marshalls, Old Navy I mean the lakewood Town Center in itself as alot to do if you like to shop or just want to kill sometime. I wouldn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t suggest living in Tacoma it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s really hit or miss there. I know alot of Military live in Olympia or Lacy. Yes they do have nice apartments there I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m not sure about what the rents are there but the traffic is not worth it to me. You can be stuck on I5 forever especially heading toward Lacy and Olympia.

I want to plug the services of a friend. She owns fully furnished short term rental homes in Olympia. This has been very helpful to several of my incoming military clients who needed a place to stay before they could move into their new homes.
Her name is Marilynn and her website is http://www.olympiafurnishedhomes.com

We had an apartment through the RPP program. I would not recommend using it. We were very unhappy with the apartment. It was located in Lakewood, which has some nice areas but the apartments there that are RPP are not nice at all.
We moved on-post over the summer and we love it. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s an unrenovated home in the Evergreen neighborhood, which means Equity hasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t gotten their hands on it and filled it with their cheap particle board and sheet rock (like we had at our Lakewood apartment). The neighborhood is very quiet and we love it!

Please call (253)912-2150 for the most current Lewis-McChord Family Housing wait times. For McChord Family housing, please call 253-589-0523.

All military service members are required to go to the housing office BEFORE they commit to a rental or purchasing contract off post to ensure that they are not entering a contract for a ?¢‚ǨÀúblacklisted?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ area.?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú A good thing if you ask me.

There is non government housing available in a Rental Partnership Program -meaning you will receive lower rents and a lot of fees are waived, also you will be released from your rental contract after 6 months to move on post.
